Held: A New Catholic Devotional Series Meets Readers in Their Fear Across 52 Weeks of Daily Prayer

The series grew out of Corbin’s own fear. In the summer of 2024, a panic attack while driving through Vermont with his wife and daughter left him with a lasting fear of highway driving. He prayed for it to be taken away. The following year, in a season of prayer, he came to believe that God was not going to remove the fear but would use it. Weeks later, a homily on how often Scripture returns to the words “do not be afraid” gave him the shape of a devotional he felt called to write. Held is the result.
Rather than promising quick solutions or easy answers, Held asks readers to slow down, sit honestly with Scripture, and notice that God is present in fear, not only after it. Each daily entry combines a short reflection, a guided prayer practice, and space for handwritten journaling designed to deepen spiritual awareness and trust.
Each volume covers thirteen weeks of daily Scripture, guided reflection, and the ancient practice of Lectio Divina. Together, the four volumes form 52 weeks of daily prayer:

Volume I — Awareness and Trust: Fear is named. God’s nearness is discovered before strength returns.
Volume II — Perseverance and Surrender: Fear lingers. Trust deepens through repetition, not relief.
Volume III — Hope and Restoration: Fear begins to loosen. Healing takes shape quietly, without pressure.
Volume IV — Peace and Belonging: Fear no longer dominates. The reader rests rather than resists.
The series is built for readers seeking a structured prayer practice grounded in Catholic spirituality and personal reflection. By making handwritten journaling an intentional part of prayer, Held encourages readers to slow down and engage more fully with both Scripture and their own experience. Its reflective format makes it suitable for personal devotion, parish faith formation, RCIA programs, or guided spiritual growth.

A portion of proceeds from the Held series supports Catholic Mental Health Ministers (CMHM), a national organization dedicated to integrating mental health care and Catholic faith.
